| Friendly Fires - Jump in the pool | Although Jump in the pool is currently my favourite track from Friendly Fires' debut album, I'm not sure about the video. It's filmed almost entirely in slow-motion, and it seems to resist the up-tempo drums that form the bouncy heartbeat of the song. But the chorus is a lot more soft-flowing and dreamy than it first appears, and the languorous background harmonies do match the visuals. Anyway - watch it and see for yourself. If you like the song, you'll love the album. (Myspace: FriendlyFires) |

| South - Better Things | I came across South via The Yellow Stereo (the source of many good things - check them out). Better Things is a track from their new album You Are Here. Lovely little pop ditty that reminds me very strongly of Deep Blue Something on their little-known but excellent album Byzantium. |

| Elbow - Grounds for Divorce | Been listening to Elbow's latest album, The Seldom Seen Kid quite a bit of late. My favourite song from it is the painfully beautiful "Weather to Fly", but "Grounds for Divorce" comes in a close second. Stomping good indie blues rock. |

| Mates Of State - Get Better | Strange video for a lovely song: Get Better by Mates Of State. I hadn't come across Mates Of State before, so thanks to The Yellow Stereo for the tip. |

| The Bird And The Bee - Again | Cool music video by filmmaker Dennis Liu, built by recording a Mac desktop. Nice song, too: "Again" by The Bird And The Bee. (Via TUAW) |

| Tokyo Police Club - Your English Is Good | Via The Yellow Stereo, here's a nice slice of Canadian indie pop. You can find a higher-res version of the video on Tokyo Police Club's own website. |

| The Long Blondes - Century | Can't find a video for this single, but it's so good that I'm just pointing to an unofficial audio upload instead. This is The Long Blondes' first single from their new album Couples. Quite a departure from their first album (Someone To Drive You Home) -- they seem to have gone all electro. |

| BigDog Quadruped Robot | Watching this robot move was a genuine Holy Shit moment for me. Its movement is so organic it's almost scary...makes me worry there's a pink glistening brain carefully wired into the core of its mechanical carapace. |

| The Wilhelm Scream | The "Wilhelm Scream" is a kind of in-joke with sound editors and film buffs. It's a scream that gets used again and again whenever a film needs a totally over-the top yell. I hadn't come across it before until Abi sent me a link to a compilation of clips featuring it. |

| Shitdisco - I Know Kung Fu | One of my favourite tracks of 2007. (Myspace: shitdisco) |

| Guillemots - Get Over It | New single from Guillemots has a bouncy mid-to-late 90s vibe to it. (I'm thinking Dodgy, Kula Shaker, that sort of thing.) Sounds like summer! |

| Tegan and Sara - The Con | Tegan and Sara are sisters (twins) from Canada. I wasn't too sure about this song at first, but it has grown on me enormously. |

| Attic Lights - Never Get Sick Of The Sea | Attic Lights are a pop/rock band from Glasgow. They've been around for a year or two already (see this 2006 feature on Blogcritics), but "Never Get Sick Of The Sea" is their first major release. Big guitar sound, melodic harmonies, cool video.
