We're just back from a few days in NL. Didn't take many photos, but we did manage to catch a UFO parked on the side of a building in the middle of Utrecht. After discussing the matter with Alex this evening, we concluded that the aliens had simply run out of petrol, and didn't realise that on this planet you're supposed to park on the ground, in designated parking areas. Nothing to worry about.

My favourite thing about the Netherlands--though I've only been to Schippol--is that to me Dutch sounds like Afrikaans with some German words and a bit of Danish-Scottish accent! Go figure! ;-)
I completely agree with Mark about the Afrikaans! I just had never quite put my finger on it that way.
Anyway, please tell me what in the world that UFO-like appendage on the building actually IS. I've avoided asking, since noone else seems to be wondering, but I can't take it anymore. I won't expose myself to further ridicule by guessing. Please enlighten me!

According to Wikipedia's entry on Utrecht, the saucer is art and was added to the building in 2000. Knowing the Dutch even to the extent I do, this does not surprise me. The country is full of the strangest and most adventurous public art. Even the sound baffles and bridges by the motorways are designed to be beautiful and interesting.
