Cards as Weapons

Ricky Jay - Cards as WeaponsOh, how I would dearly love to own a copy of this book. I first heard about it some time in the mid 90s, when I saw a TV documentary about the amazing Ricky Jay. It was the bit where he cut a pencil in half by throwing an ordinary playing card at it that got me really hooked. I practiced a bit, and got to the point where I could spin a card all the way across the room, but I didn’t take it any further than that.

Cards as Weapons was first published in 1977, and has been out of print since then. Today is the first time I’ve seen the book for sale on Ebay. (Admittedly, I’ve only been looking since last summer.) But at a cool $750, I don’t think I’ll be placing any bids. There’s a copy available through Amazon.com for $295, but even this is too expensive. I’m more interested in the text than in the book itself, so I’m hoping that maybe some day an enterprising small publisher might pick up the rights and do a new edition.

  1. Cool Book!

I’d not see it before and I’m with you on hoping it will one day be re-published at a reasonable price.

My first thought though was that there has to be an Amber DRP scenario in there somewhere 🙂

  2. UHHHHHHH i want it so badly i am only 12 and i dont have that type of money. I have looked at all the reviews and they are all fantastic and love the book so why the hell did they stop printing it. DONT BLOODY ASK ME!!!!!

  3. i learned the technique, practiced for about 6 hours and now i can make cards stick in a watermelon! the trick is keeping your wrist loose while stil holding the card firmly. look it up! it works!

  4. I am actually looking for a copy of this book to use for a speech on Playing Cards. If anyone has a copy and is willing to help a poor high schooler out, please contact me.

  5. i think that someone should make an e-book of it, if the publishers are worried that they wont make any money by printing it again, if they make an e-book it wont cost anything to make.

maybe there is already an e-book for sale but i cant find one. if anyone has any info on this let me know, i would be forever grateful.
